DIY Woven Ribbon Art

Hi there fellow Crafty People. Welcome to my little blog.  I want to share another craft created by my talented daughter Cole. Today, we're hoping we can bring out the artist in you.

Now let's take a look a Cole's DIY Woven Ribbon Art. Then imagine your version of this cute little project.

Materials

  • Canvas wrapped wooden frame in your preferred size
  • Ribbon in your choice of colours and widths
  • Glue or staple gun
You can choose any size canvas that suits the space you intend to hang it in.

Choose ribbon in colours that match items already in the room so that it will coordinate nicely. If you are making it for a bedroom, I suggest you use the bed spread as your colour inspiration.

Cole glued the ribbon but I would prefer to use a staple gun. The staples won't show since you are shooting them in the back of the piece.

We have three completed ribbon covered canvases which look fantastic hanging vertically in a straight line. It fill the space perfectly and looks way to pretty.

Directions

  1. Begin by placing the first ribbon horizontally flush with the front top edge of the canvas.
  2. Staple both ends to the back of the canvas.
  3. Place the second ribbon directly below the first one and staple it down on the back of the canvas.
  4. Continue applying the ribbon horrizontally until the canvas is completely covered.
  5. Now place your first vertical ribbon on the left side of the canvas and staple that end to the back of the canvas.
  6. Weave the ribbon in and out between the horizontal ribbons that you already stapled down
  7. Once you get to the end of the canvas on the right, pull the ribbon around to the back and staple it.
  8. Continue weaving vertical ribbons across your canvas and stapling as you go.
  9. Trim excess ribbon off the back to remove bulk.

This project is the perfect way to personalize a room with coordinating colours on a piece of wall art created by you.

Are you going to give it a try?

Tuesday Treasury: My Retro Red Kitchen

Hi everyone. This is my first try at making an Etsy Treasury.

My treasury is called My Retro Red Kitchen. I choose this theme because red is my happy colour. So if it is yours too, you'll absolutely love the items in this treasury.

Oh, and I decided to highlight kitchen items because ever since my daughter Nicole moved out, I have spent a lot more time in that part of the house.

Happy! Happy! Happy!

Come by again next Tuesday to see if I get any better at this Treasury gig.  :)

DIY: Two Tier Planter

Hi there fellow Crafty People. Welcome to my little blog.  I want to share something with you that my daughter Cole made. We're hoping we can bring out the gardener in you.

Now let's take a look a Cole's two tier planter then imagine your version of this cute little project.

Two Tiered Hens and Chicks Planter

Materials

  • Two different sizes of terra cotta planters
  • Acrylic paint - colour of your choice
  • Potting soil
  • Plants - of your choice.
  • Small stones

Directions

  1. Paint the exterior of the terra cotta planters and a couple of inches down on the inside. Nicole chose purple because it is her favorite colour. It does look nice with all the green.
  2. Once the paint is dry, fill the larger planter 2/3rds with potting soil.
  3. Place the smaller planter into the larger planter.
  4. Top up larger planter with potting soil.
  5. Fill with smaller planter with potting soil.
  6. Put your plants in. Nicole chose Hens and Chicks. It looks good now but once the chicks sprout it will be really nice. I think a trailing plant is a fantastic choice.
  7. Place small stones in the open areas. You could switch that up with mulch. Either way you will have a finished look.
  8. And you're done!

This project is the perfect way to personalize your planters with a punch of colour.

Are you going to give it a try?
