Crochet Pattern for Rainbow Hat with Ear Flaps

Please Share the Love
I've made several hats now - mostly one color. I thought I'd make a multi-colored hat for a change. Something bright and beautiful.

I chose fucia pink, a darker pink, peacock blue, lemon yellow, purple and lime green.

Oh, and ear flaps. It has to have ear flaps.

Materials
  • 4mm Crochet Hook
  • Red Heart Yarn. I ball for each color. 6 colors for the hat in image.

Definitions
CH – Chain,
DC – Double Crochet,
HDC – Half Double Crochet,
SC – Single Crochet
SLST – Slip Stitch,
BEG – Beginning,
REP – Repeat,
2TOG HDC Decrease – 2 Stitches Together to Decrease.

Hat with Ear Flaps Pattern

This pattern works in rounds.

Round 1: Colour A – CH 4 and SL ST to the BEG CH to form a ring.

Round 2: CH 2, then HDC 9 times around the ring. (CH 2 counts as 1 HDC = 10 HDC). SL ST at the end to the top of the BEG CH 2.

Round 3: CH 2, then 1 HDC into the same joining stitch. 2 HDC into each stitch around the circle. SL ST at the end to the top of the Beg CH 2.

Round 4: CH 2, *1 HDC into the next stitch and then 2 HDC into the next. Repeat from * all the way around. SL ST at the end to the top of the Beg CH 2.

Round 5: CH 2, *1 HDC into the next 2 stitches, 2 HDC into the next. Repeat from * all the way around. SL ST at the end to the top of the Beg CH 2.

Round 6: CH 2, *1 HDC into the next 3 stitches, 2 HDC into the next. Repeat from * all the way around. SL ST at the end to the top of the Beg CH 2.

Round 7: Colour Change B, CH 2 and 1 HDC into each stitch all the way around. SL ST at the end to the top of the BEG CH 2.

Round 8: CH 1, SC into each stitch. SL ST at the end.

Round 9: Colour Change C, CH 1, SC into each stitch. SL ST at the end.

Round 10: Colour Change D, CH 1, SC into each stitch. SL ST at the end.

Round 11: Colour Change E, CH 1, SC into each stitch. SL ST at the end.

Round 12: CH 1, SC into each stitch. SL ST at the end.

Round 13: Colour Change A, CH 1, SC into each stitch. SL ST at the end.

Round 14: CH 1, SC into each stitch. SL ST at the end.

Round 15: CH 1, SC into each stitch. SL ST at the end.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Ear Flap
Using Colour A, fold the hat in half with the SL ST seam at the fold line.

From the back middle, count 6 stitches to find your starting point for the ear flaps. Fasten on yarn.

Round 1: CH 2, then HDC into the next 15 stitches. Turn.

Round 2:  Begin decreasing. CH 2, then 2 TOG HDC DEC, then HDC until the final two stitches. On the final 2 stitches, 2 TOG HDC DEC again.

Round 3: Alternate Rounds 1 and 2 until you have no more stitches.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

To make the second ear flap fold at the middle point. Use the first ear flap for placement of the second ear flap. Repeat steps for first flap.

Braids
  1. Cut 2 48” strands of each colour.
  2. Taking half of the strands fold into half. Using a crochet hook, insert the hook from the inside of the hat and grab the strands at the fold and pull through enough to pull the strands through the loop.
  3. Repeat step 2 on same ear flap.
  4. Separate secured strands into 3 groups. Braid together. Tie off braid with yarn.
  5. Repeat all steps for the other side.

Pom Pom
  1. Using all six colors make a pom pom.
  2. Attach to hat using yarn colour A

I need more practice making pom poms. LOL

Happiness is ... A Clutter Free Home - 10 Decluttering Tips

Look around you. Do feel like you are suffocating? Do feel anxious or stressed when you walk into the door at home but can’t figure out why? Does your brain feel scrambled?

It could be the clutter in your house. Whether you like to admit it or not, clutter has some very negative side effects on your health and well-being.

It’s may be time to get rid of all the clutter in your home. Free yourself and enjoy your return to balance, harmony and simplicity.

Let’s Get Started

  1. Have a plan. Choose one room at a time. Inside that room choose one small area. Complete all small areas before going to the next room.
  2. Give yourself a deadline to have your clutter removed. Be realistic. You can always extend your deadline if you have unexpected errands that interrupt your decluttering plan.
  3. Don’t get over whelmed.
    • Don’t look everywhere. Look only at one small space at a time. You don’t have to do the whole house in one day. Not even a whole room. Start with something simple like your pantry or junk drawer.
    • Don't go crazy and get burnt out. Give yourself a set amount of time each day dedicated to removing the clutter. I do this. Once I get started I don't want to stop because I just want to get it done. The kids don't need super and they can read their own bedtime story.
  4. Don’t over think it. Don’t hum and ha. Go with your first instinct. Just let it go. Let it fall out of your hands and float down down down into the cardboard box. Doesn’t that feel good? Now keep moving!
  5. Get the whole family involved. Encourage hubby and the kids to purge their toys and to pitch in where ever you need their input.
  6. Keep yourself motivated by picturing your clutter free, relaxing space. Ummm. Feel the negative energy leaving your home with each box of junk and garbage.
  7. Don’t get side tracked with other projects. I’m guilty of this one. Too many projects on the go and nothing completed.
  8. The rules are simple:
    • You need three boxes. One is labeled to sell or donate, one for keep (and belongs in a different room) and the last one is for garbage.
    • If it is outdated, stinky, falling apart, missing pieces, collecting dust way back someplace with the spiders or just plain ugly get rid of it.
    • If it doesn’t fit or you haven’t worn it in over a year it’s time to say goodbye.
    • If you have more than one, how many do you need? Get rid of the duplicates!
  9. Deal with it as it comes in the door. A good example would be your mail. Open it asap. Throw all unnecessary paper/envelops in recycling and put the needed paperwork where it belongs.
  10. Make decluttering a part of your daily routine. If you’ve decided to get rid of something so you can bring a new one in, then do it right away before you forget or change your mind.
I don't want to freak you out but you do know what's next right?

Organizing. Everything has a place and everything in it's place.

Once you start organizing you will see if you decluttered enough.
